False Heroics/FTF Tour - Fredericton!

So things have taken a crazy turn. We've cancelled the Sydney and Halifax shows due to lack of funds, which I'm not too happy about, but that's how it rolls sometimes, I guess. Now we're just kicking around Fredericton. And by kicking I mean sleeping in a park. Actually Sunday night James, Jared and I slept on a table at the Fredericton Lawn Bowling Club, waking in the morning to the sound of mowing. We went out to the Bugaboo only to find out that they had no idea we were even playing on Wednesday! So, we decided to ditch our promoter who ditched us and put on the show ourselves! So I guess it's a good thing we came to town early. We made up posters and flyers and have started covering the town, we hit up the malls and some of the downtown yesterday. Last night we slept at the same park, only this time I slept at a gazebo with a guy named Craig, who's been on the streets for about 2 years now, on and off he says. In the morning after the park police kicked us out of the gazebo we went to a soup kitchen for some breakfast/lunch. Man, what a humbling experience.

False Heroics/FTF Tour - YARmouth, St. John!

I'm at the house of some incredibly nice people we met at a McDonalds in Quebec. They live in St. John and offered us showers and swim and food for today. man, a shower and a couch in a basement never felt so good. We're playing some video games with their boys (Dave barely beat me in Pod Racer, curse my vehicle's bad handling... uh yeah.)

We've played 4 shows in the last 2 days: an all ages show in Yarmouth, which maybe 20 people showed up for, and an amazing bar show right afterwards, which had incredible sound, apparently the best sound guy in the maritimes, and I wouldn't doubt it! Yarmouth is the ultimate pirate town. And the kids there all look like they're stuck back in the 90's, which is cool by me... Alan Benjamin was excellent, not what I was expecting at all. Really intense.. I'd call it "indie grunge" if I had to label it.. 1994's Seattle meets, well.. 2002's Seattle? Anyways, last night we played on the boardwalk in St. John, which was really cool, and then a late night bar show again. I was dead tired for the second show. We slept in our cars behind an arena last night, which was... exciting in the most uncomfortable way possible.

The rest of the tour is looking really sketchy... we're not sure if we can make it back to Halifax to play at Hell on Tuesday, and then our Fredericton show should be amazing, but Montreal looks like it's fallen through! Christine (who is former bongo player for Sam Roberts!) is trying to hook something up for us last minute, so hopefully she comes through. Seriously, though, the next tour we do, I'm going to spend a LOT more time booking. Everyone from Ontario-way should try to come out to our Brampton show though, it should be cool. I guess it's the same place Moneen had their CD release, but I'm just hoping that wasn't the CD release for their newest effort, cause that would be more of a bad omen than a good omen. It's cliched to say "I like their old stuff better" but honestly... "screw you and I hope you burn"? what were they thinking?

oh, I got an undercut the other night... or did i?
One of the 9-year-old kids here just told Jon, "In all honesty, I don't like your shirt."

False Heroics/FTF Tour - PEI!

Actually, we're in Halifax now, I'm at Trevor from Alan Benjamin's apartment, getting some sleep before we head out to play in Yarmouth tonight. We've had some incredible times since Ottawa. Our Montreal show got cancelled, so we went and hung out in Quebec City with some kids we met at a McDonald's on the other side of the river. Man, I love that city so much! I'd love to live there. We felt so inadequate with our low level French skills though. While we were there, we saw the Quebec parliament, which has got to be the best government building in all of Canada, and we went to this crazy nightclub with lasers and techno and $6.50 beers.. and of course, amid the underage girls (and consider that 18 is of age in Quebec) the token middle-aged Asian gay guy who hit on James and I. Poor guy got no action that night.

We drove most of the way to Fredericton that same night, and I woke up to see a dollar store in front of me, and a big river beside me. We were in Hartland, NB, home of the longest covered bridge in the world (a wonder, let me tell you!) Dave did some forced skinny-dipping and managed to slice his foot open somewhere in the water, poor guy, plus losing his digital camera, but the rest of us had a great time! The show in Fredericton was a small turnout, but really, really fun, and we drove to PEI and spent the night camped out in a school parking lot there. The show in PEI, man I won't go into details here, but it was crazy for so many reasons. Maybe I'll post about that later. Anyways, I've been up for a long time now, it'll be daylight soon and off to Yarmouth!

False Heroics/FTF Tour - Ottawa!

We are on the road! FTF got this amazing touring van, fully decked out in luxury with Xbox and DVD player. We watched Royal Tenenbaums on the way to Ottawa today, although most of the trip I spend asleep in Mike's car, since I got no sleep last night (finishing up the Meltdown! compilation design. See the cover.) Tonight we played in the basement of a church to about 70 kids with the average age of 15 I'd say. Our old friend Joanna from Brantford came out to the show, as did Chris Millward, so it was cool to see some familiar faces. It was a cool show, but I would have liked to have seen an Ottawa band playing with us.. and the show was over by 9ish! We went out for poutine and drinks with a bunch of people afterwards, and I got into a discussion about Catholic theology with a guy there, which was stimulating conversation. Well, for us anyways, everyone else was probably bored sick. Now Dave, Jared, Jon and I are spending the night at Millward's. Tomorrow's show in Montreal was canned, but at least that gives us a bit more of a sane schedule to work with for getting to Fredericton for Wednesday.

Brantford and Beyond!

My band's show at the Ford Plant in Brantford went pretty well last night, and tonight we play at a teen camp in Thamesford. Tomorrow Harriston, and then its off into the great beyond with our friends Fighting The Fall! Our complete tour itinerary can be found at falseheroics.com. Our new tshirts had errors on them from the screenprinting place, but the guy redid our shirts for free! I fully recommend Fab Print for all your screenprinting needs.

Bowel Movements and Chicken

I've been working a lot. Wiped a lot of crappy bums, and tomorrow i'm heading to KFC for a 9-2 shift cooking chicken, and then off to Lion's McInnes for another 4-12 of hanging out with the boys! Yesterday my rockin' and rollin' blind friend Marc did poo his pants ("Lg BM" as his records say,) and pretty much managed to get poo all over the apartment. Funny thing was, he was in a lot better mood yesterday than he was tonight. Tonight he was hitting and stubborn as a mule. Wouldn't even make his favourite chocolate chip cookies. I love those guys though. Hopefully the home takes me on as a casual worker when I go off to school, since I'll probably be back to Brantford on weekends, and certainly over Christmas holidays and such if need be. This thursday the band plays at the Ford Plant, and then our tour begins! We won't actually be totally leaving Brantford until Monday morning when we drive to Ottawa with our tourmates Fighting The Fall. Man, I'm so excited for this tour! It's going to be a blast! Too bad we don't have more time in Quebec. I'd like to see Montreal. I'm bringing French CD's with me for the drive. Pick up a little francais on the way. s'il vous plait. hey hey hey. how gay.

MCMF and the Aftermath

I went to most of the Murdered City Music Fest this weekend at the Ford Plant in Brantford. Man, what a good time! I was so, so tired for most of it, since I was working for most of it, but still amazing. I was particularily impressed by From Fiction, By Divine Right, Fembots, and of course my darling Bicycles. The whole weekend was chalk full of amazing artists though. I'm doing a show at The Ford Plant this week, with my band, Asher, and Fun Is Fun (Oh, I made their website.) That should be great, and then its off to tour the east coast! Booking hasn't come together as well as thought, but hopefully things still work out. Maybe we'll be playing some open mics and street corners. Ohhh, the life of a travelin' band!
